Finishes

Honed

Honed means the surface of the stone has been ground to a smooth, flat, consistent surface. For stones with a natural shine such as granite or marble, the polish or shine is removed leaving a matte (unpolished) surface with little to no reflection and no bumps or ridges.

Polished

Polished Finish is processed through a series of mechanically ground “polishing/grinding”. This process also includes the use of a chemical known as a Hardner & Epoxy. The multi-step operation of mechanical friction-rubbing a concrete floor surface with or without waxes or resins to achieve a specified level of CPC defined finished gloss.

Flamed

Flamed Finish is produced when an intense flame is fired at the stone, causing the surface to burst and become rough.

Sand Blasting

Sandblasting, is the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface or remove surface contaminants. A pressurized fluid, typically compressed air, or a centrifugal wheel is used to propel the blasting material.

Antique

Antique Finish has a brush, slightly textured finished and has a much duller appearance.

Acid Washed

Acid-Washed Finish is shiny with small etching marks (pits in the surface.) This finish shows fewer scratches and is much more rustic in appearance than a honed finish. Most stones can be acid-washed but the most common are marble and limestone. Acid washing is also a way to soften the shine on granite.

Bushed Hammered

Bush Hammer is a masonry tool used to texturize stone and concrete. Bush Hammers exist in many forms, from simple hand-held hammers to large electric machines, but the basic functional property of the tool is always the same - a grid of conical or pyramidal points at the end of a large metal slug.

Natural

The natural finish is basically the absence of treatment. The stone is sold as extracted from the quarry, once cut into the desired format. The final look depends entirely on the characteristics of the stone and its exploitation. This finish is appropriated for cladding and cobblestones.

Water Jet

Water Jet, is an industrial tool capable of cutting a wide variety of materials using a very high-pressure jet of water, or a mixture of water and an abrasive substance. The term abrasive jet refers specifically to the use of a mixture of water and abrasive to cut hard materials such as metal or granite.
